How to set a custom link color
By default, links inside message bubbles are painted with your brand color — the same one used for buttons, tabs, and other accents. If your brand color happens to be one that’s hard to read as text (a light yellow, for example, can be nearly invisible on a light bubble), you can give links their own color instead, separate from the brand.
This is set at Settings → Look & Feel, and requires the Look & Feel permission.
Before you start
Have your light-mode link color ready (a hex value), and optionally a dark-mode one. You don’t need a dark-mode value — if you leave it blank, Atender derives one automatically the same way it does for your brand colors.
Steps
- Go to Settings → Look & Feel.
- Find the Set link color separately toggle.
- Turn it on. This reveals a light link color field (and a dark link color field).
- Pick a light link color — either use the color swatch or type a 6-digit hex value directly.
- Optionally, pick a dark link color. If you skip this, Atender derives a dark-mode value from your light color automatically, the same way it does for primary and secondary brand colors.
- Check the contrast note under each field. It reports the ratio of your chosen color against the message bubble surface and flags anything under 4.5:1 as too low — but it won’t stop you from saving a low-contrast color. It’s your brand; the choice is yours.
- Click Save.
Your link color is now stored, and links in message bubbles pick it up right away — the preview area (and live conversations) will reflect the change.
Turning it off
Turn the Set link color separately toggle back off and save. The two link color fields are cleared, and links in message bubbles fall back to your brand (primary) color, just like before you turned it on.
What this does — and doesn’t — affect
This setting is scoped narrowly to links inside conversation message bubbles: linkified plain-text URLs and prose links that appear in the body of a customer or agent message.
It does not change the color of:
- Buttons, tabs, or other UI accents — those keep using your primary brand color.
- Internal notes.
- Sidekick.
- Any other surface outside the message bubble itself.
If you don’t turn this on, nothing changes: links continue to use your brand color exactly as they always have. This feature is off by default for every tenant.
About the contrast check
Message bubbles come in different surfaces depending on light/dark mode and whether the message is inbound or outbound, so the settings card measures your chosen link color against the surfaces it’s meant to be read on and shows you the resulting ratio (e.g., “14.0:1 on message bubbles — readable”). A ratio under 4.5:1 is marked as too low.
This check is informational only — it reports, it does not block. If your brand guidelines call for a specific color even when the ratio comes in low, you can still save it.
